Grandpa2: That old tired saw about "assume" drives me nuts. We all have to assume things every day of our life. It's a cute saying but totally nonsensical. Were the word spelled diffrently no one would make cute remarks about assuming. I assume the sun will rise, the river will flow downhill, that we need to drive on the right, that conservatives will defend Bush and liberals will defend Clinton. Sure, some assumption turn out to be wrong, but we have to have a starting point.

Now that I have that rant off my chest, I will say it's possible we could get along. My best friend is as conservative as one can get. He is a lifetime member of the NRA, gave generously to shrub’s campaign and thinks Rush is a prophet. We get along only because we each recognize that someone can disagree with us without automatically assuming they are and idiot, and we both recognize that liberals and conservatives have flaws and often make mistakes. We also find that life is better if we do not discuss politics.
