We have a house in Kona, mostly there is reef fish which are not to fun and poisunus to eat ,except to the locals which have grown immune to them. trust me one of our friends had 1 reef fish and 3 days he was on the toilet. We have fished on the Reel CLass out of Honokohow (sp) harbor. There is one place we fished that was fairly close to shore that held some wahoo but it was a big drop off. You might try renting a skif and going out to one of the bouys around the island which usually produce 5-20lb skipjack tuna, we trolled a pink skirted jig, looked like half humpy jig, half pink bass jig. Reef fish are small, you could try fishing for sharks but thats probly not a good idea as you would be prfishing rfrom shore and swimmers, i think you get the idea laugh I hope this helps. O and i think mahi season is kickin during the winter but i am not sure.
