Two things I might recommend. One is to switch to non-buoyant or neutral buoyant lures like Jensen Eggs, pink worm, Gooey Bob, Wool ties, Spinners etc. The second is to peg your Corkie/Cheaters to the line with a toothpick, then add a small split shot 6 to 15 inches above the corkie. Fish your float with a relatively long leader so that your pencil lead is very near the bottom. This will put you Corkie/Cheater in the zone. It okay to drag bottom a bit when float fishing.
