I prefer to use backing on the stuff and I use 30# Berkley Flyline Backing. Just enough wraps to cover the spool 2 times. Then Use back to back uni-knots for the backing/braid join. With backing you'll never have the braid slip on the spool. This has happened too many times to me not to use backing. Besides if you take a fish that far down into the reel you've lost all control of the fish anyway. I never fear the knot breaking or the fact that the backing is lighter test wise than the mainline because I don't take the line that far into the spool.

If you don't use a knot tier (have never used one) then tie using a Palomar knot. Almost all other knots will fail way before the break strength of the line.
