Went halibut fishing yesterday with my uncle and grandpa. We ended up fishing 30 miles out. Don't sound like much, but that's quite a trip when you have to deal with swell and cross chop.

We started out with some bogus numbers from one of the major guides in the area( I won't mention his name) which put us over 800' of water. We ended up looking at the chart and just trying a spot that turned up some fish. It turned out to be a good day for us. Pulling in fish from over 500' of water sure is a workout. These are our first halibut, so we are pretty happy about them even though they're only 25-30lbs.

Eating em right now and they sure taste good.
I think we're going to go for round two next weekend if it's still open. Sure hope so.

We used octopus and never had to change bait all day. That stuff never did come off the hook. Even after all the fish we caught. Sure is tough stuff.
