We were in the murky water yesterday, 12 miles out. We got a few kings up to 25#, and I had three takes at the boat, two kings and a silver.

If you are on a charter boat, here are a few tips.

1. Always keep your bait working. Drop down to 50-80 feet, one strip at a time to avoid tangles, then reel up unevenly, stopping every 3-5 feet for a little bit.

2. When you see your sinker (helps if you wear polarized glasses), stop. Move your bait from side to side with it 4-5 feet below the surface. Kind of like Musky fishing. Why do you think they paint the weights orange and pink?

If you stick your rod in a pole holder and wait, you might hook a fish when it is time to reel up. (why do you think the boat almost always hooks fish when the captain gives the order to reel up?

3. Always be the last one out of the water, and the first one in.
