Manny Stats A little spike in HRs from 1998 to 2005. Coincidence? Maybe, but I think not.
Could have a little something to do with a move out of 'the mistake by the lake' and into The Fens... ya think?
Here's how I see it: MLB had a don't ask don't tell policy on roids, they liked the action they were seeing on the field and they didn't want to know what was causing it. Chicks (and other fans too) dig the long ball, period. Ball parks got smaller, the mound got lower, and pitchers were getting rocked... they needed a little help, so bring on the HGH.
You can't really compare Bonds to Aaron, or Aaron to Ruth... the game was different when they played. Ruth hit a ton of homers late in games when the pitcher had already thrown 120 pitches, and the short porch at the Stadium helped too. Aaron played it pretty hitter friendly parks durring an era where relievers came in only sparingly and there were't a bunch of bullpen specialists like there are now. Bonds played in the Juiced age, not just the players, but the equipment too! What's everyone going to say when A-Rod hits #800? I'm sure they'll try to tear him down too. Steroids weren't against the rules, some chose to sell their souls, some didn't... let them live (or die... just ask Caminiti) with the consiquences.
It is what it is... now they have rules and somewhat stiff penalties for violations, lets see where that goes. I'll keep watching baseball, but I'd rather watch High Schoolers or Pony Leaguers. It'll be interesting to see what the fall-out is... but I'm not holding my breath waiting for ol'Bud to "make it all right". ~josh
