Hey, well I spent about 10 winters in Breckenridge in the 80's which luckily coencided with my ever expanding flyfishing addiction....They don't call the S.Platte(above Spinney Reservoir) the "dream stream" for nothing. I've had some of my best days anywhere there in Feb-May(before the crowds) and have caught some rainbows that were fatter than any steelhead I've caught(I ovbiously need to catch more steelhead...) There are also salmon sized Kokanee that run into the river in Feb-april? If memory serves me, the reservoir ices out sometime in may and the monsters are hungry and up on the surface(float tube)....believe many state records have come out of there, and to make it even more interesting, there are N. Pike in there also that are bigger than your tube. I'm also remembering one of my top 10 days ever that occured just below the dam on the Frying Pan(near Basalt on way to Aspen). Anyway, if I only had one day, I'd go straight to the S.Platte(2 hrs?)...Most of my friends moved away when the $10 pretzel place moved in, but I'll see if I can dig up some current info....I'm jealous....Tom
