I read the book and kind of avoided the movie for that reason. I hear it's a good movie, but in the book that kid isn't much more than a dumbshit. His story kinda' follows Todd's sig line that used to read "stupidity should hurt." Wading across a freezing Alaska river - gee why use the bridge like ordinary people? My recollection is that he was more than a few ounces shy of his first gram of common sense. Tragic, but kind of a natural and logical consequence of trying to live off the land without bothering to become informed about how to do so first.

Maybe I'll put it on the Netflix list.

I would see Brewer's movie tho, when it comes out on DVD.
