I run my leaders a lot shorter. 16" to 18" behind the flasher/dodger. Lots more action on the hootchie/bucktail. My hook-up ratios went up when I shortened the leader. The fish has to decide if it wants to eat the target or not. With the longer leaders, I was getting hits and releases from the downrigger, but not sticking the fish.

And here I thought I was the only one running my gear that short. People laugh when they see the length. Guess the proof is in the puddin. Havent gone past 30#, but had a few fish chew right through my leader last summer.
