The thing about it is the 'truths' which are the foundation of the premise of the quote are feeble and need only a little 'grey' inserted into them for them to crumble.

Example:

Take 'You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer'. Make the quote more topically specific...

'Does minimum wage pull down the wage payer?'

....and you are left to discern the truth from a question to which there is no easy answer.

No easy answers, no truth to feel-good homilies. In fact, their use and appreciation discourages us from applying real thought to real issues and real 'truths' that should be smacking us in the face...
