Multi-day trips can create possession issues. As a general rule, there is the daily limit which could also be the possession limit. Some states allow you to take two daily limits and that is your possession limit. The possession limit can also include what you might have at home in the freezer.

The WA definition of possession limit is found on page 30 in the fishing brochure. It reads: "The number of daily limits allowed to be kept in the field or in transit." I don't think WA has a possession limit once the fish reach your home freezer.

The field possession limit for halibut (pg 102) is "Two daily limits in any form, except only one limit while aboard the fishing vessel." It does make it difficult for boaters on an extended trip to possess more than a daily limit.

Maybe you should consider making a regulation change suggestion. The regs are open for changes from the public this year.
