Although I made it through a few birding classes in college, I never did get through the reading ones....

Perhaps the "blue collar" is a bit ironic? Typically when they band geese, pending the year they'll use color coded neck collars...

Trumpeter - black bill with red border on lower mandible; the red border may be present on some tundras.

Tundra - black bill, usually with yellow spot of varying size in front of eye; this spot may be absent on some tundras
