I was in my little 12 footer on Alder one year and had some dim wit buzz me twice. I grabbed my orange canister of flares and very noticably loaded the pistol when he came by again. I think he got the point that the flare was going to cross his bow if he got too close again. He did not come by again. When I say buzzed, I mean within 50 feet. I was in a little cove fishing, so it was not like I was in the main lake area. There should be a law that you can sink the watercraft of idiots who do stuff like that. At the least they should be charged with reckless endangerment. And tossed in the pokey for a few weeks.
