"We are not providing close air support for the Libyan rebels. Our mission is to protect civilians from slaughter by Gaddafi's troops. "
(or similar)

It was reported today that A10's and AC130's are flying missions over Libya. These are our best fixed wing aircraft in the inventory for very close air support of ground troops.

Could be that we only draw 3% from the Libyan oil reserves, but if Europe's supply gets cut off, the Euros would have to draw from another region. Maybe one of our honey holes.
