I fished swofford a couple of times late last winter and was impressed with this fishery...

lots of small bass and bluegill and planted trout.

there was a fair amount of open water (about 1/3 of the lake's water area) and lots of thick weed beds in the shallower water......

I profile this lake as follows:

Water is about 12 to 14 feet deep in the old creek channel which runs right along the north end of the lake where most of the "park and fish" access is located. This deep water continues southwest and then curve directly east leaving most of the south and southwest shorlines of the lake to be very shallow and weedy.

Last february and march I did very well on small lmb's and bluegill working along the shallow weedy southwest and southern shorelines. I caught lots of planted rainbows in the deeper water. All the fishing was done with 1/32nd oz jigs tipped with small plastic grubs.

I wasn't there during the warm season this year and so can't comment on whether or not the deeper areas "weeded up" but will check it again next feb or mar when the cowlitz river steelhead fishing slows down.....
