I worked on it for awhile. The contrast was pretty blown out but here's what I did.

Start with the original


Playing with the gamma adjustments reveals some features in the image that were washed out with the original settings.


Further adjustments and some image enhancement reveals more hidden features


Applying a filter to sharpen the details shows even more detail.


Applying a Fourier transform, some low pass filtering and in inverse transform begins to show the missing components of the image


A little smoothing and contrast adjustment and it's all fixed up.
