JFC! FnF, you know the mentality? You seem to be an Idiot savante', you know everything about anything. The primary issues of the unions are fair working conditions, and the welfare of it's members and their families, who are the public, since you indicate that NJ is primarily Democrat.
The Utilty provider decides whether or not they employ union or non-union linemen. This is usually based on training(which equates into efficency and safety), readily available man-power. So the crew being asked to sign with the union is not a union requirement but the utility providers requirement.
