I was wondering how Mona's article differed from flip side press back when Bush almost won in 2000. Remember all that lack of GOP gloating? And how Republicans didn't slander their opponents? Me neither.

It's the extremists on both sides that provide fodder for the media. Centrists who try to solve problems of national interest don't provide the kind of media entertainment that bumps ratings and sells advertising. And since this is 'Merica, it's all about ratings and advertising sales. Discussing and solving the central issues is painful news to the public, so they don't respond positively to it, so the media covers what the public does respond to, which is the entertainment value provided by the R and D extremes.
