Very good suggestion on the knife. Again, if it ain't handy in a hurry, it is probably worthless.

I am a big fan of the NRS Co-pilot knife for river based applications among others. I keep one on my life vest and one on my chest harness for helicopter short hauling. The co-pilot has a couple I other handy features built in like an O2 bottle wrench and beer bottle opener. The quick release sheath is slick and hasn't failed me yet though it looks sketchy.
