Got rid of cable last year. Football season was brutal, but I survived it. March Madness will be another test of my resolve.

While I agree that network television has no redeeming value and is likely harmful to all who view it, that wasn't my reason for canceling cable. It was the realization that I was paying about $1200 a year to watch sports.

Cable and satellite TV providers need competition, perhaps more than any other industry, so they will have incentive to provide better options, based on customers' viewing preferences. The way it is now, they've got us over the barrel and are free to raise rates and structure packages so that everyone is obligated to pay for premium service to get the handful of channels they actually want to watch. I would pay $10/channel/month for an a la carte service. I could get everything I want for half the cost of the gang rape package price. Of course, I might miss the 300 TV shopping and syndicated rerun channels.... NAH!
