The 101# is needed for easier-to-push drift boats for similar applications.
So you're going in under-powered and then trying to control from the bow in current.

I'd use a true* 8 HP for all conditions.

If you go ahead with it and it doesn't work, you'll have a bunch of crap you can't use and multiple holes drilled into your boat for the bow mount.
If you lake fish for bass it would be useful.
