I'm in the camp of who really gives a schist. Doesn't seem there's hard proof, but pretty sure he probably knew. Whether you believe that strictly comes down to whether or not you like him/them. That seems how most people make their judgments.

Our coach is hired and his former college team is immediately sanctioned, put on probation, etc. We look at him as if he's pure as the driven snow. I'd be willing to bet he knew the Bush family was living well beyond their means while at USC. He probably knew a bit more than that but didn't stick around long enough to suffer thru the fruits of his labors.
