I have always used 12 lb main line on any bigger fish, even when i fished out in the ocean, just perference.

I use a swivel to attach the wart to the main line, seems to let it wiggle free and won't twist up the line it it gets hit and goes sideways. i tied the line the swivel like using a spoon, run the leader the length you want and tie on another swivel. then like marty said hook the top swivel onto your main line after you cast it out, hold high at first and as it hits the water lower so the leader and plug will just pull itself down to your stopper.
At least this is what i was doing down lower when i had those funny bumps on my pole.
I am going south Sunday to see if there are any fish in the Nasty. Osprey may come down too, so if you are inclined stop on in.
