I believe that was the rationale, but the way I heard it at lunchtime, the NFLPA gave the NFL authority in to unilaterally punish players for rules violations in the last CBA. As usual, it looks like the NFLPA's word is only as good as the word of any one of its members... and if you consider the way they all want to tear up their contracts every year, that ain't too good.

I love watching NFL football, but the constant parade of overpaid, self-entitled men proving that they are, indeed, above the law of the common man is getting tougher and tougher for this fan to stomach.
