I did the Google search as Todd said, didn't find much that said the film wasn't based on facts. Mostly said the film didn't delve into much of what was happening up the food chain, as that part of the story is foggy. The story is told from the perspective of 3 men who were there, the negative google items are by people who were safely in their beds as the story went down. Who do you believe? They asked for help and it never came and that is a fact.
