hey guys, i live and fish in the extreme northern part of california. we have been using small cocktail shrimp, and mini marshmellows for salmon and steelhead for years. the last time i fished the chetco i did well with shrimp and mellows, but i have yet to see anyone else using them. they dont drift at all, but for fish hold up in deep holes they are very effective. my question is are they anymore popular further up the coast.

For steelhead in lue of quality roe, shrimp can't be beat. I use a touch of instant bait color (red) and you got a nice soft & durable bait.

Ive used them and caught kings and cutts but never tried them for steelhead. Found they were to fragile for drift fishing in bigger water but they seem to work better than prawn. I think because of the scent. I never used them much because you cant keep the smolt off em.
