VERY new to flyfishing, Sparkey totally hooked me up with a great flyrod (Sage 5wt, loving it so far), but that doesn't give me any additional skills.

Any tips you guys have? I've noticed that small fish will take just about anything... which is why nothing over 6" has touched my fly laugh . I caught a little bass in the lake today on a black woolly bugger, and I saw a nice rainbow ALMOST go near it, but as soon as I started my retrieve, he bolted!

Anyone here live near Enumclaw by any chance? Want to hook up in a local lake/stream?

Thanks!

Curtis

Take one of those introductory classes from the fly shops. And read all you can. The amount that you can learn about fly fishing is boundless.

Checkout the Green River College class. Excellent instructor and reasonable.

Thanks.

I've been reading quite a bit, hitting the rivers as much as possible (tho not much lately... man even that greenwater river is HIGH!), and I did look into the GRCC class. $85 is definitely affordable.

Just got back from backpacking up the Greenwater River. The water actually was a great level and was dropping. The silt in the lakes were starting to settle and clear out. Usually fishing in the river is tough and mostly small fish. However, fishing the first and largest of the Greenwater Lakes is very good, this is were we camped for 2 days. All but one of our fish were caught off the river mouth. The brookies and cutts hold within 5-20 feet off the mouth on the bottom. Take a beadhead nymph, hare's ear or caddis fly nymph, in size 14-10 and let them get to the bottom. Drift from the edge of the lake along the bottom in the river's current out to 20ft and then strip the fly in with 6 inch pulls. Some trout took the fly on the dead drift others while stripping. The fish here were from 4-14". Some of witch were nice and big.

The first lake is just under a 2 mile hike in and has a few good camp sites. Also at 6 miles there is Lost Lake which is a good hike, moderate difficulty, but the fish are few and very wide spread.

Try the lake and hopefully you can build up your confidence.

Hey thanks!

I hit Eleanor, but didn't have a float so I couldn't fling any flies frown .... Fun lake though, some GREAT fish out of there, I'd estimate around 16" were caught.

I'll look up Lost Lake on the map. THANKS
