Hi All,
I have this old Gloomis Premier 8wt rod, recently my kids stepped on it while camping this summer and snapped it clean about 10 inches down from the feroule of the tip.
I sent it to Gloomis but they were not able to fix it for me because they don't produce this rod anymore.
I hate to throw it away.
Any suggestions on this.

Did Loomis offer to replace that rod with one that is comprable ?
If they did , then they will want that rod in exchange for the new rod and it they did not make that offer to you, call them back ask, and they will give you a new one that is equal with todays production.

Divers,
Loomis did not offer any replacement what so ever.
Only they said was "would you like us to throw it away for you or do you want it back?".
So I said send it back to me.
I didn't think about asking them for a comparable rod replacement.

SR-
I have had a few discontinued rod replaced by them (although It was more of a downgrade )but it was a free . Lifetime warranty means life time warranty, especially that rod you had.
Under new management (Shimano) things could have changed but that Premiere rod is a GLX (if it is the one I am thinking of) so you should get a new rod either way.

I don't think GLOOMIS has always offered a no questions asked replacement. I think that they started that when all the other manufactures went to it. I had to pay a couple of times back in the day. I doubt they are going to take care of this for free. Intersting to see what happens.

I broke my GL3 5wt last summer and I contacted GLoomis and got a replacement rod thru their Expiditer Service. Cost $50.00. New rod,no questions asked. Had it in my hands in two days. Of course I had to send the old one back but they provided the box for that also.

OK, I'm going to talk to Gloomis right now.
Thanks everyone!
I'll let you folks know what the outcome is.

I talked to GLoomis and they said.
Premier rod only had 2 year warranty.
"So no upgrade option for me what so ever" said by Gloomis.
Guess I made a mistake by purchasing a 2 year warranty rod 17 years ago for $150.00 then.

I thought as much. They also made you prove that it broke because of a manufacturing related defect back in the day... I like it the way it is now. Rods have about a 500 % markup manufacturing cost vs retail... they can afford to give away a rod now and again.

So for now, because I needed a new Steelhead/Salmon rod desparately and I can't afford those $600.00 GLX or Sage rods.
But I still wanted a quality inexpensive heavy duty fast action rod.
So I purchased a TFO TiCR 10WT along with a new Tioga reel spooled with 300 grain integrated WFS wet Teeney line.
This rod is so much better than my old Loomis premier.
May be I should just take my Premier rod and turn it into a bonking stick now that I can't save it. laugh
