Maybe you guys can help me understand why folks seem to think they have to wade belly deep into a river for Steelhead? Or any fish. They must not know they have spooked em away and are standing where they woulda been!

There’s no reason in my book for this!

I know one guy I’ve been fishing with for years; he is out to his waist and deeper every time!

I’ve even fished behind him and caught fish!

Well he learn (I don’t think so!)?

Isn't it a great feeling to hook a fish behind the belly waders?!!! I have only done it once and it was a very satisfying fish.

It's even better to hook one behind a spey rodder with a single hander.

For the same reason that anglers cast to the far bank. They don't read the water to estimate where the steelhead are most likely to be holding, so they employ whatever system they've fallen into that has yielded some success at times. Hey, it's way easier than thinking.
