Pretty fish. I have fished in areas where there are occasional Dorado, but haven't caught one yet. I'd like to.
Fish on...

Top ten fish in terms of fight, table fare, and looks.

Very nice!
Hundreds of Dorado brought to hand and then promptly put on ice. Largest was 65 - 70 pounds caught in the Grenadines. Sold it in the local market and paid for the entire day on the boat. Have a 50 pounder on the wall that I won a Key West tournament with when I was 14.
They are really, really, really dumb fish. Snappy Coho and pond Sunfish are Rhodes Scholars compared to Dorado. If it moves, it gets eaten.
Schoolie D's in the 5 - 15 pound range are a blast on the flyrod. One of the fastest, if not THE fastest growing fish in the ocean. A typical 30 pounder is only like a 1.5 years old. So yeah, if it moves, it gets eaten.
Good jorb!

BTW- for those that don't know....Mahi Mahi, Dorado and Dolphin are all the same fish. The name is dependent on where you are fishing. I've not yet been fortunate enough to fish where they are called Mahi Mahi. Maybe one day...
The single best take down I've ever seen from any fish came from a crashing 60 pound Bull that rode a heavy swell like Kelly Slater. It was a flippin' EPIC takedown that I will forever remember. Good times.

Good photo, you have to be quick to get the color before it dies, and thanks for the shot of warm...I needed that, missing my yearly migrations and overdoses of Vitamin D

The first I ever caught was swimming with one that a buddy had on, when I saw it it was too close for missiles so I switched to guns.... just opened the bail and threw the GT Bull into it's mouth, game on, so I like dumb fish...even I can get them. Have gotten into the 45 lb range and realized that if they were 100 lbs you'd never see one, they'd just take all your string and leave.

They are kinda like Tuna in a feeding frenzy except for one thing, if you get into them you let the rods all load up. If you do not and you have one hooked and it gets off it is out of there in a second and the whole damn bunch goes with em. They are a great East Cape fish to go after and the big bulls will match about any fish pound for pound in fighting spirit, damn things do not give up!

I have a picture of the first one caught but he was dark so I had them snap the second sooner. Both on live bait. Wouldn't bite the artificial flies/hoochies. You can't fish Los Arcos after 9 AM as that is when the divers have it. We followed the birds who were feasting on bait fish. No sailfish and no rooster fish.
Celebrated our 30th anniversary with breakfast in bed, couples massage on the beach, and a romantic dinner on the beach. Got to save some baby turtles on the beach and put them out to sea. Also celebrated my birthday with a moist cake at the El Rio BBQ on Rio Cuale and they had a band. Great ribs. I felt like they take Covid seriously. On day 3 of quarantine. Got a deal on a poolside cabana and a beach Cabana our last day. Arturo was a great chef and fixed the fish.

Todd,
Join THE REEL NEWS group this May. You'll catch a Dorado and much more. Great package deal, and fabulous fishing for lots of species.
