...goes the spoils!

This morning's game cam pics from a camera I have way up in NE Washington...

Apparently the rut is still going on up there with the randy whitetails, here's a 4pt and a 3pt squaring off while a doe looks on...

And a minute later, the 3pt. is gone and the 4pt. is getting himself a little wink

Fish on...

Nick will recognize that spot, as he stared at it with his 30-30 in hand for quite a while.

Cool pics man, the proverbial "2nd rut".

Those brothers missed their cuzzin' on the 1st go-round. Looks like she "got-got" this time, lol

You should have yourself a couple of dandy whities in a few more seasons if the wufs n cooogars stay away wink

For sure...she didn't have to watch long.

Like Snit said...she must have somehow avoided all the boys last month, I bet she's been pretty popular this week!

She was probably a late spring Fawn when she was born. Even a month behind the other fawns, will push their cycles back considerably.

My best BT buck was chasing a late season Doe just like this, but he didn't get the chance for some lovin'.

Cool to see nature do it's thing...

Ain't exactly hunting, but recently the wife, daughter and I were walking a trail in the Hoh rainforest. Walked through a herd of a bout 6 elk, one spike, as they fed. Every once in a while one would stare at us. Often less than 10' away. Fun to just watch them amble along, unconcerned about our presence.

Were you in the park? They KNOW when they are in the park and they KNOW that people on those trails pose no threat. The very second you put on some camo, grab a weapon and step off trail, they KNOW to get outta Dodge. Jerks.

One of the locals that's been helping me a bit with the area I elk hunted this season, had a 6x6 within 10 feet the day after rifle season ended. That bull was nowhere to be found during rifle. It's like he had an Outlook schedule reminder set to screw with hunters. It's uncanny and I've seen it time and again.

Huh? It's an offline game camera that's manually checked every day.

Go suck on a Werther's gramps.

We were on the short trail to all the mossy spruces just north of the Rainforest Visitor's complex. Up on the bench above the Valley. I am sure that if we stepped off the trail or some such they might have spooked. Never have hunted elk but have deer walk up to me while I stood there in the open bow in hand. The rut messes up buck's minds. Kinda like in High School.

I haven't ran the cell cams, most spots I hunt are off grid and don't have the cell service. Wish I could though, would save some travel time checking cards.

They aren't worth the money. Most game cams aren't worth the money. They're designed to fail after about 2-3 years in the woods. It's a bonus if you can get one to last longer than that.

They fail from weather; trees & limbs, bears, hunters, trespassers & criminals. They're stolen even on private land, let alone the public woods. All things considered....yeah...about 2 years of use and then something bad is going to happen.

Most hunters don't need all those fancy and ever increasingly complex features. You only need a 8 - 10 mp camera, some no-glow IR's with a 60 - 80' trigger distance. $30 - 50 bucks tops. You can buy an 8 pack on Amazon for a little over $300. That's like a 12:1 ratio of cheap cams to a single high end cell cam.

I'll carpet bomb some of my elk spots with cheap cams. First, to pattern the elk and second, because I know half are going to either fail, be stolen or crunched on by a bear. I have cams out there I haven't checked in 2 years and I highly doubt they'll be there when I return.

Cheap is the way to go...at least for me...

Case in point. Even at the Island deer camp (pretty much in | near society & normal cell coverage), 1 or 2 of our 4 tree stands either doesn't get or barely gets any cell service at all. I could run a booster wire up a tree and solve that, but then I'm spending $2000 on 4 cameras and boosters PLUS an expensive monthly service plan after that.

Nah.

Snow? I thought it was sand! It sure itches like sand. Scratchy.

thumbs

I don't think they should be outlawed at all, but I do think that the suckers that spend $500 bucks plus a service plan are...uh...suckers.

To each his own I guess. It's not my wasted money.
