60 days with out a drink.
No reason other then I wanted to show myself I could do it and deal with my stress in a more healthy way. After my back surgery I started to drink a lot out of depression from dealing with the loss of a child and a family member.

Changing my daily routine made the biggest difference for me in achieving this, along with a 65+ hour work schedule. I feel great!
Or at least a lot better then I did. I have been working out more, and working out harder. Hitting the bag like I was 10 years ago again, and my endurance feels off the charts right now. What used to drain me after the first set or so I am now doing 4 and 5 full sets before gassing out.

Not everyday is unicorn farts and rainbows, but I feel like it has taken the edge off of a few things in my life and even helped to improve my mental health. Looking to go another 60 and see where things are.

Tomorrow is a new day. I look forward to seeing what it brings, and making it my bitCh. smile

No easy feat. Sorry about your losses, worst part of being sober is the boredom. But congrats! 60 days sober in the pandemic must feel like years.

PM me if you want to talk about it.

Congrats.
I'm going on 5 years plus or minus.
Completely lost the urge to drink daily like the past.
Even can have a drink once in awhile without falling back on old habits.
Stay with it.
Life is better.

Sorry for your losses WP. It's awesome that you are channeling your weaknesses into something that will build you up, not break you down. Keep it up thumbs

Echo all of the sentiments above, plus glad "it" didn't grab you!

I too have lost the urge or habit to drink on a daily basis over the last 3+ years. I'll go a couple of weeks or more (have gone a few months, just out of curiosity) without a drop and I honestly don't miss it. I lost a decent amount of weight the first 6 months as a nice bonus as well. I'm way more productive in the evenings as well.

Keep it up!

Damn....that's a tough row to hoe, not sure I'd know how I'd deal with that as I never have had too, I respect the strength to take it on when you have.

I did quit a 30 year chew habit cold turkey the day after I filed for divorce back in 97, figured I'd dump all the bad out of my life at once.

It worked. I don't miss either.

Reporting for duty.

It's amazing how much life can be impacted by the sauce.

Stay strong WP. As Dan offered, if you ever need to chat with a 3rd party, hit me up.

Great job! How much weight have you lost? I lost over 20 lbs when I gave it up for 60 days about 10 years ago. I've thought about giving it up but still do but more in moderation < 2 per day but still may do 6 occasionally. No problems with my liver. I used to day drink when fishing but substitute water. I've really reduced my beer intake but I like red wine, a little vodka or whiskey. It can kill you and a few people I know have had issues or died as a result. I guess most of us can no longer drink like we are teenagers or in our 20s.

I have a little over 4 years without a drink. The pros far outweigh the cons:

Pros: Twice as much energy, turbo charged. Need less sleep. Remember things much better (I thought this was a weed thing but its definitely also drinking). Lots more money in the bank. Weight loss.

Cons: Lost a lot of friends when I quit. People who are alcoholics dont like getting drunk with the clean and sober. It just is that way and I dont know why, I don't judge them. You could say they weren’t “really” my friends, but they were, we laughed all night long at the bar so how is that such a bad thing?

"Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to obtain it".

Not sure who originally said that, but it's something that's helped me a lot. Maybe it can help someone here too.

Friend with diabetes died last night. Liked to drink and it made it hard for him to control his blood sugar.

Glad you're on the right track. Once your liver and/or pancreas starts to get effected it's no fun.
