I have been down in oregon for the last 2 weeks or so. Fishing every day in the heat. Nice to be back in WA for a couple days. Just thought i would post a report to have up on the board.
Started out on the J.D. with a 4 day float almost 2 weeks ago. The river was high and although we caught plenty of the fish we didnt find many over 12 inches. Lots and lots of fish in the 6 inch range. Fun but it can get frustrating with so few big fish. Mainly fished olive and black buggers the first couple days and then switched to chartruese poppers of my own creation and got a lot of fish to take the surface flies. It was very crowded though on the weekend and fishing space was tight.
After that float ended we took off for Magone Lake outside Long Creek OR. It was a beautiful little place with some small rainbows and brookies but they we very willing to take a CDC emerger in the evening. The next day we headed for the Strawberry Mntns. I caught some nice little westslope cuts in the creek at the base and then headed up to some high lakes. Some of the prettiest cuts i have ever seen. I wish i had a picture. At the lake we found some brookies but no more cuts. Got most of these fish on a parachute adams but resorted to using a big flashback PT nymph to land a few more.
After that it was back to the J.D. for another 4 day float.
This time there were bigger bass up to 16 inches. Lots of fun on a 3wt. Mainly throwing poppers but also a little bugger action on day 3 when the river got really muddy due to a rainstorm up stream. We also got into a catfish which was some good fun.
10 days fishin with good people and lots of fish. GOOD TIMES smile
