So, one of my engineers was cleaning out his father-in-law's shop and found these copper nails:

He sent them to my team to see if anyone could figure out what they were for, and one of my other engineers, whose dad worked in the railyards in Tacoma, identified them as "Railroad Tie Nails".

Apparently they drove these nails into railroad ties to identify what year the tie was installed, so they would know when and which ones to pull up and replace. They were copper so that they wouldn't rust out.

I also noticed that people sell those things for real money on ebay and etsy.

Those are cool. I think I have one from my birth year that I picked up at a train show. When I find it I will make it part of a paperweight, as I have done with a few spikes.

That's cool stuff and I tend to gravitate towards cool old stuff, now....."My Engineers" and "My Team" sounds almost as intriguing as the date nails.

They put me in charge of stuff a few years ago, they seem to not be regretting it so far.

Tood, this would have been a lot more DS worthy if one of “your engineers” found a date nail from ‘69.
