Things being a little quite I thought something new would be interesting, anybody priced boats lately? I mean like damn things are getting up there. Then engines and the shop that takes care of my boat has 300 Yamaha motors (of all sizes) on back order and it seems Mercury is doing a bit better. Parts are getting to be the same way.

Anyhow I am a bit surprised at the price that used boats are fetching. Glad I did a full refit last year rather than wait.

The pandemic really put a dent in production/supply of a lot of things last year. My old man needs a new lower end for his motor, and the shop he works with said it will be 3 months minimum, and as many as 6-9, before they can get one in hand.

Try finding some ammunition these days!

Fish on...

I noticed.
I put my Bayliner up for sale last fall hoping just to get what I paid for it after using it 3 years then deciding I like other peoples boats better than my own.
After a couple of disappointing near misses at the asking price things heated up in November, first guy that offered me 7000.00 more than I paid for it...got it.

Buh bye.

Everything in the supply chain is out of whack right now with tons of stuff on back order.
Half my sales orders this month couldn’t be billed because there is no equipment.
We’ve been told to expect this moving forward for the next six months.

One of my coworkers just bought a new car. They only gave home one key fob because they said they don’t have enough chips to make two fobs for each vehicle.

One more thing. Be sure to have the new boat tax stickers. Boat tabs expired at the end of june. Of course the website is down.

I thought about buying a used drift boat, just because I'm having walking problems, but then WDFW pulled that xhit, 12/14/2020, no fishing out of a boat, then everything went "on hold".

Does surprise me that with the "virus and people not working", there aren't more drift boats for sale, I find that interesting.

Boat prices have been crazy for 18 months...for the type of boat that interests me anyhow. 20-26', all-welded aluminum, NW constructed boats that is.

Just over a year ago, I sold my 2012-22' NR Seahawk for a couple of grand more than it was new! It had close to 500hrs on it (prob 5500hrs on the T-8), good condition but showed signs of being used (especially from the calcium chloride). I got ALL my money back from all the options that I left on the boat as well (TR-1, 2-Lowrance's, misc etc), and I had it advertised for less than 2 weeks. 1 year later it would bring $5000 more, easily.

A month prior to selling the old boat, I bought a 2018-24' Seahawk that was pretty much loaded. The private party owner was needing to move it, as he didn't want to continue to make payments as the world was shut down due to The Vid. I cashed him out for 40K less than he paid 2 years prior at the Portland Boat Show (it was a floor model), and then I started refusing offers once I got it on the water at home. The scarcity of 22'+ NR Seahawks is just crazy!! January of this year, the wholesale pricing went up 9% across the line I was told. I'm so busy with work my new boat hardly gets used, but with the current backlog of new orders, NR is still WAY behind in production. Inventory is almost non-existant at their dealers (as well as their competitors also). I'm sure I could flip my boat for an additional 30+%, but I like catching fish for people on my boat.

I'll probably look back and kick myself for not flipping it and taking up golf though! The real salmon fisheries are just going to fade away like our steelhead have.

You'd have to be Looney to buy a used boat right now. 2005 boats selling for 5-10k more than they sold for brand new with 20 years of wear and tear.

No thank you!

Go try and build a deck right now.....

If one looks at the price of a new hull it is easy to understand. Add to it most aluminum boats barely get use that wears out the hull integrity. I refitted motors, controls. seating, electronics for around 22k on an 03 hull. I paid 20k years back and a new hull fitted the way I did mine is around 70k. So with used boats the value is not in the hull but motors and the rest of the stuff. Now if you got the money to burn hell the quality of boats has drastically improved as to size/comfort and beauty parade boats but they don't fish any better just cost more.
