Been packing a flyrod on most trips lately (GA, HI, etc) with no success beyond casting. Just returned from a birding trip to Trinidad. Packed the 1wt. Was able to spend a couple hours chasing Tilapia in a small pond. Never fished for them before so ws more clueless than normal about what to use. I settled on a woolly worm. Actually had a number of swirls while it acted as a dry. Had two actual hits and one stuck. A nice fish of about 7.5". Probably should have fished either earlier or later when it was cooler. Due to tons of recent rains water was not clear so I couldn't see them. Must be lots of fish in that pond as we saw two kinds of Kingfishers, one species of heron, and the rumor of fishing bats.

Bats eh ?

In my experience night fishing for Bass, if using a fly rod, you have to use / keep the flys/poppers small and dry. The Bats will take em right off the surface or even outta the air when using a slow backcast.

Use barbless for safe releases...

Guy I used to work for was night fishing with flies in closed waters beered up, and a bat took his fly. He was blissfully unaware until bitten. Had to undergo rabies shots. The bat not the guy.

Should mention that we had a bat in our cabin. Cute little guy.
