I got this notice a few months ago. I found it interesting, but never got around to looking into it further. It seems to indicate that the tribe is opening up some areas of Puget Sound for long lining. This would allow the retention of all species of Rock fish and other species that are off limits to us. Any one have any idea what they are doing.

Not to worry, Krijack. They'll leave all the dead bycatch lings and halibut for the sporties....

"all species of rockfish"

I seem to recall that yelloweye and canary rockfish are Federally ESA listed as threatened in Puget Sound and bocaccio listed as endangered.

Interesting

Just noticed the minimum 7 /0 hook size. Wonder what they are really targeting. Doesn't sound like perch, flounder or sand dabs.

Great. That's all the sound needs is more harvesting on stocks that have struggled for years. Curious of the toxicity of PS bottom fish since areas of the sound probably have the worst water quality in years. If so I wouldn't want to eat them if brought to market.

Does see a little "fishy". maybe this is really just a shot across the bow of the water quality regulators and the "recovery" managers to actually accomplish something. Because to challenge the the fishery they will have to admit their shortcomings.

Just to let you know, I went ahead and sent out an email to the tribe. Unfortunately I did not get any response. If I get a chance I may send out a note to the State, but I am not sure who handles the area. If someone knows and sends me a contact, I will try to dig in a little further and get an answer, if there is one.

So are all Puget Sound origin "wild" Chinook.
