Well, I'm considering selling my Klamath 19' and getting a slightly bigger boat with an offshore bracket.

I'm looking to get something with a little more space, a better ride in choppy water, and just a little more solid feeling. The Klamath is super lightweight with thin aluminum, which is great for towing it with a small vehicle and powering it with a 50hp motor, but you really feel it when it slaps the waves. Its got a super sharp bow entry, but a 7 degree deadrise at the transom.

I'm looking at a Hewescraft Sea Runner 190 (22' LOA with bracket), probably with a 150hp. This has a 16 degree deadrise at the transom.

I'm also looking at some Alumaweld models, including the Stryker X 202, which also has a 16 degree deadrise at the transom, as well the Intruder and Blackhawk models.

If anyone has recommendations or suggestions for things I should consider, I'd appreciate the input.

I own a 22 foot intruder with a bracket with a 150 Yamaha on it. No boat is perfect, but this one is as close as it gets for me. Yes, aluminum boats have a drawback in that they tend to pound a little bit, but my boat greatly surpasses the ride of my friend's 20 Hewes (that does not have a bracket). I always watch my weather before I plan to go out on the Pacific, as anyone should. My previous boat was a 21 foot Glassply cuddy, and it handled choppy water better, but it was heavy. My intruder is spacious for a boat of its length. Six people can go for a cruise and have lots of room. It fishes four easily, but three is better. Maybe the best thing about this boat is the 150 Yamaha. I don't know if I got lucky, but mine only burns about three gallons per hour cruising with four aboard at 25mph! My 9.9 Yamaha kicker trolls for hours almost burning nothing it seems. My Intruder is fifteen years old and well worn from dragging crab pots over the side with the electric pot puller banging a bit, but what the heck. Two big guys can go to the side of the boat to net a fish or pull a heavy crab pot with no fear of tipping too far. My friend's Hewes craft doesn't act like that. However, I know that Hewes has new models that might have resolved their tippy issues, I don't know. I have used my boat extensively on the Lower and upper Columbia for sturgeon, and upper Columbia (the Dalles) a lot. Don't buy a boat with a two stroke motor!

I fish "lot's" in the Chehalis River, there are 5 or 6 of us that fish a "mini hog line", 0ne of the boats is a Hewescraft, that is a good looking boat. It is powered by a Yamaha 115/80 jet....he spents a month, during the summer, at LaPush, Washington coast.

He, many times has wife in boat, fish off the coast....5 to 10 miles out, and has not felt like the boat couldn't handle the water.

His boat might be a 18', and no longer built. Myself, it would be better with a 150/105 or maybe a 115 prop.

Comment....... I have a custom made "River Wild", 17 ', 6 ' bottom, not a boat for running in waves, but I'm good to go in rivers. I ordered boat with ETech 90/65, sold that got ETech 130, sold that got the ETech 150/105.....hauls ass, love to fish and run with the boat.

Too much power is better than "under powered", more is better!!!!!

I purchased the 22' Intruder after looking Hard at the North River. I dismissed the Hewes when the salesman thought I was crazy for saying I fish for TUNA! out 35 plus miles if conditions allow.

I have a 140hp, four stroke Suzuki. Fuel flow gauge.
53gal tank with two taps. one for the main and one for the kicker. Each has it's 10 micron fuel filter.
Two batteries with a blue seas switch that charges the second after the starting battery has been recharged.

I have filled the open bow with water a couple of times. and have made a 3/4 plywood cover to prevent so much water from remaining there.
