I have to take some forced time off work (not all bad) - the biggest upside is having some mid-week days to play with.

Wifey says the 12 year old can play hooky one day.

Where would you go?

Anyone know how long the Salmon stays decent for? All month if fresh rain? I've been turned off by what looked like a [Bleeeeep!] show out there, but wonder if mid-week might be ok.

Not looking to fish with a guide, just want some one on one bonding time with the kid. He generally likes hiking/wading remote OP waters with me in late summer or fall.

And already drifting the Skagit/Sauk with a buddy later this month...so looking for a more remote bonding trip with the kid with the advantage of a weekday.

Any good ideas?

Salmon is about a trickle with this cold dry snap we're in. Same with most other rivers. I would head to the larger rivers and bum around the lower reaches of them, to find anything fresh trickling in. About time for me to break out the spey set up to start swingin some flys in these low waters days. Dry and cold through the end of this week. Long term forecast states that it should break out of this, with a good bump coming next week, if you have faith in long term forecasts.
