Washington to debut new mobile application for digital hunting, fishing licenses, and harvest reporting

MyWDFW mobile app coming soon

OLYMPIA — The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today that its new digital licensing app, MyWDFW, will be launching soon in alignment with the 2026 license year.

“We’re committed to ensuring everyone finds belonging in the outdoors,” said WDFW Director Kelly Susewind. “This app modernizes how hunters and anglers access licenses in Washington, improves customer experiences, and ultimately helps prioritize people’s time where it matters — enjoying Washington’s great outdoors.”
“We’re also excited about the advancements this app brings for real-time harvest data collection and support for long-term fish and wildlife conservation,” Susewind added.

When MyWDFW launches to the public soon, it will be free and available from Google Play and Apple's app stores.
The MyWDFW app is a comprehensive mobile licensing tool for both hunters and anglers. It supports license purchases, displays active hunting and fishing license privileges, and enables electronic tagging for a wide range of game species, including deer, elk, turkey, and black bear.

App users can report migratory bird harvests and submit end-of-season harvest reports, with most features available offline. Other functionalities incorporated into MyWDFW and soon available to Fish Washington® include catch record cards for select fish species and an Enforcement View for WDFW officers, along with access to customer licensing (WILD) profiles.

App users who opt to become a mobile license customer will have valid mobile license products at the start of the new license year on April 1, 2026. Once the MyWDFW mobile app launches, people with existing 2025 licensing products will remain paper license holders through the 2025 license year and then will have the option to switch to mobile for the 2026 license year. For the rest of the current calendar year, 2025 licensing products will also be available exclusively in paper.

MyWDFW’s launch is the first step in the Department’s long-term plan to phase out durable-paper stock licenses in favor of mobile licensing. The Department will share more information about this transition as it becomes available.

The app’s creation follows rule making and a public comment opportunity the Department conducted in 2023 to allow electronic licensing, electronic tagging, or e-tagging, and catch reporting using mobile applications. More information about that effort is available in a prior WDFW news release.

One of the few stamps I use every year is the return of my Catch Record Card (CRC). Glad to see this.

I hope the same people that developed the fishing regulations app aren’t in charge of this.

"Enables electronic tagging". I hope they keep the paper tags because not everywhere has cellphone access and not everyone has a smartphone.

There was a recent report on the radio about a number of western states busting folks because they got bad information from the inter web. This state's were saying to rely on what we print.

I have seen, and this was years ago, commercial fishermen get off because of poor notice available to the fishermen.

If I remember, the Fishing guides, are suppose to be doing something similar to this for the past few years. I've not seen or heard about any results, has anyone?????

So far, I have found the WDFW website's fishing information to be of low value.

I look for trout fishing and all they suggest is lakes while I want walk and wade streams. I also look for walk and wade, or bank, panfish.

It seems that WDFW is focused on opportunities from boats, which I chum well from.

I do appreciate, though, the ability to report results online.

I went on a guided late Coho trip the middle of November above Porter. We got fish, and at the end the guide broke out his phone and recorded our catch. He said it has worked ok for him. But the young guys have much more patience with that stuff than me. They work out glitches where I would toss my phone, out of frustration, in the river if it doesn't work the 1st time.

What's gonna happen if the adopt mandatory cellphone reporting, I an in an area with no service, and a warden checks me?

I think I read where WDFW said you could use the app or the regular old punch card. Not everyone has a cell phone. Plus in a lot of areas you can't get cell service.

That would be fine by me.

I'm going to use the old punch card for as long as it is allowed. First off there is no battery to die in the old punch card. Secondly, if your punch card gets wet it can dry back out unlike your phone, I usually don't carry a phone because I end up in the water once or twice each year. Thirdly, punch card fits inside my wallet so is always carried. Fourthly, once I quit my job I'm not even going to have a phone period, so it's bizzare to assume everyone has a smartphone because if it wasn't necessary for me to do my job I would not have one. I don't see how this enhances the experience for the end user, just another layer of bureaucratic bs nobody asked for but we get anyway.

I'll go even further that my phone is primarily for use as a phone. Plus, most off my views are covered by FP on this.

Had a friend who was deer hunting, was aiming at an animal, and his phone rang.
