17' River Wild sled, 6' bottom......I use 75' of anchor rope, most of the time in the Chehalis River, anchor weight is 55# and that has stopped my boat, even at a "high water, minus tide on out going water", BUT 55# of anchor is getting a "little much", so this year I tried a "43# weight" and it work good, except in high water, minus tides, if I had 100 feet of anchor rope probably would have been fine, but all that rope can be a "pain in the ass", tends to get wrapped up, or around things....
Rope size, I like 5/8" but many people use 1/2", 5/8" is just easier to pull.

I like that 8 - 10' of chain but my anchor system can't handle it. I don't think I've ever used 7/16 rope, might have to give that a try......solid braid is the only rope to use for a anchor system, IMO...
Thanks for the 7/16 idea.... Amazon here I come!!!!!
I looked, but that is smaller diameter than 1/2" and I don't like to use even that size......just wish my "rope cleat" was a bit larger...works good for 1/2" braid but just a little small for 5/8" but the 5/8" pulls so much better.
I can't find rope cleats, anymore, that are designed for 5/8" braid rope, I sold two jet boats that had the larger size and never took them off......grrrrrrr

Update.....I've had anchor systems on different boat since 1974....I've always used 1/2" or 5/8" braid rope.....well, I learned something since the posting above....that there is a rope size between these two.. 9/16, NO ONE that I know has ever mentioned using this size.
This might be the answer to my problem....5/8" is just a little to big, doesn't always get down into the "clam cleat" far enough and will sometimes allow slippage and boat starts down river.
I'll add a answer, sometime in the future.....
