The last couple of weeks I've had an opportunity to try the new Steelhead floats from Thill. Normally I don't get too excited about floats. I use them to keep my jig at the proper depth and to tell me when I've got bit, but these new floats are awesome! I tested them head to head with a number of other floats and they were by far the best. They were designed by Steelheaders in the Great lakes region who were looking for a quality float. The design somehow keeps the jig tracking right under the float much better than any of the other floats I tested. It's also easy to move up and down the line and you can put them on or take them off without removing the jig. I spent this morning fishing my usual float most of the morning(without a bite) then switched to the Thill and landing 2 nice fish in 45 minutes. Due to the low clear water conditions I was able to watch how the jig tracked under each float and the difference was surprising! The only float I'll use from now on.

Thanks for the report, Jigman. Those sound like some nice floats. Did you purchase them on the Lindy Little Joe website, or did you find them at a retail store? I checked the floats out on the website and saw that they come in 4 diameters. What size(s) would you recommend? I usually use 1/4 oz. or 1/8 oz. jigs. I'll let you know how the floats treat me once I give them a go.

Rainbow Jigs in Auburn now carries Thill Floats. You can e-mail them at rainbowjigs@aol.com and get some. I use the 1" for 1/4 oz jigs and the 7/8" for 1/8th oz jigs.

The Premium Steelhead floats are $1.65 each, expensive but well worth it!

Jigman,
What brand of float did you previously use? And, have you tried the Thill Turbomaster floats? I recently heard a guest speaker just rave about the Turbo floats as being the ultimate, due to the wire, but I haven't run into anyone else who fishes them, and I haven't found them locally in any shops. Was just thinking about ordering a couple when I saw your post...

I've been fishing Thill floats for the last few years but just went to the Steelhead float(It just came out). The turbo masters are okay but I don't like them because I can't see them well because not much of them sticks above the surface.

Just finished a trip yesterday and used my new Steelhead floats,Love em!!! I've used the turbo master before and they worked fine, but these new ones are weighted so they cast easier and I can use my GL3-1143 and a baitcaster too...bonus!!!....Os
