Hey Guys I was just wondering if anyone has used hollow core lead on there line instead of split shot?I have been using hollow core instead of split shots nd havent been succesful yet, and I am wondering if it is because of the weight that I am using.I have had it set up with a 6" foam float with a 1 inch piece of hollow core lead crimped onto the line right bellow it, and then a barrel swivel with another 1" piece of lead a foot bellow that and about 4 feet down from that I have a 1/2 inch piece so that the worm will stay down. This is my first year float fishing and my friend is doing real good with it but not me so. If you can help pleasse reply back.

I am also wondering how many feet do you want bellow the float-Usually?

Here is how I rig my wieght for float fishing.
I use a piece of hollow core lead. I use enough to load the float the way I like it, About an inch and 1/2 of top of the float riding above the water.
I put my float on my main line, Tie on a barrel swivel. Then I tie on a piece of lighter line about 10 inches long. I slide on 1 3mm bead then I slide on my lead onter bead and then another barrel swivel. The beads are knot protectors. Then I tie on my leader.
I usually use 15lb mainline, 12lb for my leadline then a 10lb leader.
If Im fishing an area that is snaggy I cover my lead with surgical tubing.
I usually set my depth so my lead is about a foot of the bottom.
I hope this helps

I like split shot but much of the time it crimps the line so instead i use two small rubber twist weights, one about 8 inches below the bobber and the other about 15 inches above the worm. this makes moving the weights up and down much easier and more can be added or removed without messing with knots~which can really help on a cold day.

JUST DO LIKE YOUR FREIND DOES AND STICK WITH THE SPLIT SHOT, IT IS MUCH EASIER TO ADJUST
DEPTHS NOT ONLY WITH SLIDING THE FLOAT UP OR DOWN YOUR LINE BUT ALSO BY ADJUSTING YOUR BOTTOM SPLIT SHOT UP OR DOWN YOUR LINE AS WELL. DON'T TRY TO REINVENT THE WHEEL, IT WORKS JUST FINE THE WAY IT IS. 3 TO ZIP! SEE
YOU ON THE RIVER.

I've fished the methods discribed above, but here another one that works and is a lot less complicated.
Rig a slider or fixed float above a 1/4 oz or 1/8 oz "Worm-Collar"jighead by www.silentapproach.com
use a 4" worm,or pinch a larger one down thread it up to the head...fish on!!!

These things work great....Os

Thanks wish4fish, I just need someone to take me to H&H so that I can buy some.

I might be able to go this saturday and sunday, so that we can really fish the river hard. I think that we need to fish the secret hole first and then move up the river from there?what do u think?

Hey Catcher ... while the rigging I've got pictured int he float fishing section of the site uses split shot, I've more recently been adding an inline slinky (lenght / shot size varies) about four feet above the float and then just using a small shot or two below that to keep the offering down rather than swirling a lot.

There's nearly as many ways to rig these as there are options for drift rigs (some like to suspend their offering, others like to basically bounce bottom below a float, and so on), so find a style you like to fish and stick with it! They work, and it's something we use A LOT of when the water gets down in the rivers out this way like we've seen this year, in fact, most of the pics you've seen off the Quillayute system are all float-caught fish. Good luck!

There's a little peice in the latest issue of Salmon Trout Steelheader on fishing the worm on a jighead.....be sure to use a jighead with a collar for holding the worm in place and one with a heavy wire hook, no need for it to be painted. Rig below a float and catch fish....it's thta easy!
