Brethren,
Visiting the Hoh and Sol Duc this weekend and would appreciate any info on a good casting / bank rig for Springers. Will the standard salmon drift rig work? What about floating a big hairy jig? Thanks for your time. confused

The standard driftfishing and floatfishing gear for eggs and/or shrimp should do you well there. And not only will a shrimp tipped jig work for Kings, so will the pink worm with shrimp oil on it. They aren't just for steelhead anymore smile . Don't forget to try some hardware too.

For bank rigs, try a slip bobber with straight eggs, or slip bobber with straight sand shrimp.

Also spoons, try casting a kastmaster or little cleo, in the head of holes/base of rapids.

Good luck

I cant give ya any help! Ive been out a few times a week and havent managed to even hook one yet. I gues Im jinxed for springers.

Ive been on the Duc since its right down the street but Ill be on the Hoh Thursday if its not blown out. If you see me you might as well go somewhere else, you might catch the jinx.

The fish are starting to show now as well as the last good shot of wild spring steelies. Summerruns havent made a good showing yet but there are a few early ones in the Duc but you cant keep hatchery steelhead on the rivers out here untill June 1st. If you do keep one and get caught you will get pinched, so dont even think about it.

Remember if you fish the Hoh thats its cliped springers only, no wild fish can be retianed, and ther are no springers planted in the Hoh.
