This was forwarded by a friend. Also heard a blurb about it on the radio. Was this poached 40# hen worth it?

What I hope will happen is that he gets the full fine and has his boat sold at auction to help pay for more game officials. Sell all the tackle in his boat, too, as well as take away his fishing priviledges for what's left of his life. And make sure it gets plenty of media coverage.

What will likely happen is no fine, get his boat back, and maybe lose his license for the year. And we won't hear any more about it.

In order to get the bad anglers to quit you've got to make the punishment cost far, far more than the profits of the crime.

from what i've read on a couple of other bb's, is this guy was a known poacher and in the past had bragged about doing it. so i'm glad they caught the guy, and i agree i hope they drop the hammer on him! a fish like that is what we need spawning in the rivers!

I heard about another jackass out on the coast on the salmon opener who had 5 salmon, 1 being a sub-legal king another being a wild coho, they hit him with a $800 fine, doubt he was a first time offender either.

If you stop and think about it, it's really kind of ironic. Here this guy is, out poaching salmon, an endangered salmon, no less, and we want to crucify him..... And we should! What he did was wrong and it contributes to the already bad image that hunters and fishermen have been labeled with. However, if you happen to be a tribal member and you harvest fish in a way that would otherwise be illegal, or if you take fish from a run that has been labeled as "threatened", it's OK. Hell, people will even stand in line to buy them from you! Yeah, this guy is a Puke, and what he did isn't right, but it's funny how everybody gasps when a non-tribal fisher does something like this, yet nobdy gives anything more than the occasionall hail-hearted complaint when the Tribes do basically the same thing. Every one of you guys who say that this dude should rot in prison for killing a fish should be saying the same thing everytime a tribal net goes into a river or stream that has a wild run of fish in it. Remember, just because the tribes are on the "right" side of the law in no way means that what they do every day is no less unethical than what this particular person did... He took a fish that needed to remain in the system to spawn and pass on it's genes, whats more they profit from it, and in my book, that makes it worse.

I disapprove of any type of poaching. I think it was wrong and he should pay the price. Unless this guy was out there poaching to feed his starving family. I seriously doubt if that was the case. That's my opinion on the subject.
