Headed to Yakutat Aug 25th for a week. Any tips on places to fish for Silvers? Situk vs Lost? We are mostly going to use spinning set ups but also want to give fly fishing a try. Have a couple GL3 4 pc rods and need to know what lines we should bring up as well?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff confused

WF steelhead taper floaters should work for everything you will encounter there at this time of year. If you want, make up or purchase some short, heavy mini-tips if you need to get down.

The time frame your up there the Situk is the river to target, the Lost has a later run of fish. We were up there in July and there were a few chum and pinks in the Situk already. Going after silvers with a fly can be fun but you weed through alot of the other fish also, which isn't a bad thing but it gets a little tiresum after a while. We caught silvers while we were halibut fishing when ever the bait would go past we'd toss a spoon out and wham. The silvers were in the 8-10lb range so thats a good indication you'll be into some heafty one's on your trip. Remember to make alot of noise if your walking the river trail. Good luck and have fun.

Jeff- You can use sink tips in the 5-7 foot length which will sink at 5.5 ips or so to get the job done, this is a fun time to fish for coho. If you have Teeny lines cut them up and swing your tips to these coho, very hot, and they like blue a lot!! Hope that helps.
