Does anybody know where I can get some of those red float stops without having to buy a float. Or any suggestions on any homemade stoppers. As always appreciate the help.

i've used a fly line connector made by eagle claw, i can't remember the exact name, but do know they are used for connecting fly lines together (i think), they look like a little barrell with an opening at each end and a little slit in the middle. they work great, you can real them up through the guides in your pole even. If i can remember the name i'll post it. In the mean time check out teh fly isle at your local sporting goods store.

Sportco and Fred Meyer have always had the same rigs pictured in Dan S.'s post.

Try nail knots tied with dacron fly line backing. Works good.

Try dental floss nail knots tied on a cocktail straw. Collecting the cocktail straws is almost as much fun as catching the fish.

Sturza, Are you talking about the small red plastic ones that you weave your line through or the thread type that you pull tight on your line? I use the thread type because it passes through the guides easier. As Flickyourjig stated, 20 LB Dacron tied as a nail knot does a great job. Get a spool of Dacron and you'll never need to buy bobber stops again!! Good Luck!!

Don't make this harder than it is. Just take a small rubber band (the green ones that come around your morning paper are the best) tie a half in inch on your mainline where your stopper needs to be, and then clip the ends of the rubber band off. Leave a small amount of over hang on each "knub" so that you can tighten the ends with your teeth if the stopper starts to slip by the end of the day. I usually tie two stoppers in a row so that you can fish days with no slippage.
I hope this helps...

I have found that the rubber bands move some over time, particularly when making long casts and if the rubber is not new. This can make it difficult to fish an "exact" depth which certainly makes the difference at times. I personally use a "nail knot" with a piece of any monofilament-heavier poundages are better. As long as I don't break it off on a snag, the stopper will last as long as the line, and never moves unless you want it to. Will warn ya that this knot can be a bit difficult to tie with cold hands. Be sure to leave a bit of length on the tag ends so that it will not slip through the bead. Happy Angling! RM. Sturza and others:
Have fished bobbers for about 7 yrs. now, have tried many "stops".....1 of the best and cheapest, RUBBER Bands. Fast, easy, cheap, just get a box/bag of small ones. Rubber bands do slide after a while but with the 10 1/2 rod I use, very easy to check, just hold rod up, see where the rubber band is when you first put it on, then easy to check from then on...... BOTTOM LINE is it works.......very well.

OK pilgrems listen up. I will try to expalin it to you... go buy some dacron fly line backing at Fishermans
lay a 8" piece next to your mainline.
Make a 3" loop with both lines
Take the tag end of the backing line and pass it through the loop about 5 - 6 times
Grab both ends of the backing line and pull tight
trim ends
I have been using this knot for over a dozen years and one good knot will last weeks (thats about 8 - 10 trips for me). Much better and easier that the nail knot I used to use.
GAWD I cant wait till my bober starts going down. Here come the fall pigs, get ready...
