Team Vision forgot to check the boards all week and showed up for Flotilla III. Seeing that no one was around, the Team waited a couple hours before hitting the water. Finally, on the water by 10:30, the float began. Here’s a recap of the float. The Good: Well, I hate to be the one to say it, but most of you missed out on a great day on the river! The river was in great shape, as long as you found some traveling fish and presented them with something that they wanted. To say we found a few fish is an understatement, although it did take us a while to find those mint-chrome bright hatchery fish we needed to fill our limits. Many pesky dogs kept interfering with our presented tackle. Although fun to catch, not exactly what we were after. Joe started us off with this nice chromer silver. It didn’t take long for BK to add a few to the fish box! Likewise, I got in on the action as well. This, by the way, was the largest sliver caught by Team Vision on this day BK and Parker double up on some kings! In all, we hooked over 30 fish. [ 10-28-2001: Message edited by: parker ]

Man, I KNEW we should have fished one more hole down river. We worked 'em over pretty good upstream, but I knew your "picture hole" would have fish in it. Good work guys.

So given a 10% mortality rate, how many of those 30 fish are dead? Not counting the fish kept and that's only one day of fishing.

BK, wildman is just jealous that he can't hook one the right way to release. Fishhead5

Hello Parker, glad to know who you are now, and be able to recognize you next time I see you. We had some great fishing didn't we, before I knew it I asked the guy standing next to me what the time was and realized that I had to stop fishing and go to work (LATE, but good thing I make the schedule). Thats why you saw me zooming by as you guys were taking a picture of that big King. I was the lonely guy in the sled that was at the forks, I really did not think the river would be in such good shape, I was expecting a sea of mud down below. You are right when you state that the river probably would not be too fun with all the boats expected for the flotilla, but I heard a hot tip (e-mail if you like) that would make one of our other choices okay. You probably already know anyways. I would like to know who the fellow was, that was standing next to me ,I handed him my rod to hold, as I helped another angler release a chum. while he has two rods in his hand , mine gets a fish on and he's yelling quick, grab your rod! It was too funny, anyway, he seemed like a great guy with a good disposition, unlike a few of the fellows fishing there. Sure was glad that I wasn't one of the guys who walked on their property to get to the river. PS. Hope I didn't disturb too many with my sled! When I got to the launch there were only three vehicles, and one of them was my steelheading partner. I was very surprised, to see that many fishers out that morning.

Hey Steve, That was me. Didn't know that was your sled parked there or I would have asked if it was you. Glad you were there to take over quick, I was worried he'd head upstream and get some loose line. Thanks for pointing out my "amazing floating rod" too. It was good fishing next to someone who didn't get up on the wrong side of the bed. I'll say "hi" next time.

Wildman- Parker works at UW for the fisheries Dept. and if you think for one minute that the fish that they released were harmed and are going to die then, that's because you havent fished with BK,Joe or Parker. I know that the only fish kept were the ones that needed to be bonked because of not having enough stamina to keep going to there destination. [ 10-28-2001: Message edited by: catcher1 ]

Wildman, How cute, another new screen name from this month and only one post.. You weren't fishing next to team Vision when they were catching all the fish were you? Did you get your feelings hurt? Don't forget about all them nets that them fish get tangled in and have to fight for there life for before they have a chance to get out. Where do you get the 10% mortality rate anyhow? Never heard of that one before.. I know I fish a tidewater section of river during the summer for summerruns. James and I catch and release A LOT of fish there. The water temp is typically around 58-62 degrees and the river runs around 80-150 cfs all summer. I've NEVER seen a dead fish laying around or at the bottom of the holes. If they do die then where are they????? Your 10% mortality in 44-48 degree water doesn't make sense no matter if you hook them in the lip or the gills. SOME ONE PLEASE EXPLAIN!! Great job team Vision, and a hell of a day! Keith [ 10-28-2001: Message edited by: stlhdr1 ]

Parker, those are great pictures, what kind of camera are you using, as I plan on purchasing one for Christmas. Dan S., I forgot about your floating rod, that reminds of the time we were floating the Wynoochee as it was in the process of going out. We hit a submerged rock and I dropped my rod in the water as I fell in the driftboat, my rod SANK and by a miracle I reached in the water as I was falling and grabbed a hold of it. I was very fortunate, because it was a rod that I had custom built, before I could ever think of purchasing a loomis or even a lamiglas. Look forward to seeing all of you on the river this weekend?

Hey Parker and BK, went back this afternoon and just rocked em again, but this time we hooked more big kings, Jeff got one that was 38 to 40 lbs I took the film in already so I should be able to post it by weds, I lost a great big chromie that took me down about 1/4 of a mile. We almost had that sucker in the net when it sawed the leader, oh well, we did end up with a bunch of nice fish to take home though. Another day at the office. I will be there again tomorrow, most likely will be starting off with kwikies this time. Peace Joe

Good job Team Vision! Way to go Joe. Did you get those 'nookies on Uncle Joe's eggs, or did you go with the kwikies? Hmmm, that question sounds familiar. Oh ya, I asked you that before we went into the 'Scrambler' nightclub in Oly the infamous night before Floatilla 1.

Nice job Team Vision. Nice pictures Parker. I was tying up gear Thursday when RT calls and says, "I am sure you read the board and saw the Flotilla is off". I hadn't read the board and was getting ready to go. Who taught RT how to read? : :p It looks like the Dawgs out smarted us and slayed 'em all by themselves. Way to go guys. Maybe we can have Flotilla III1/2 up there so we can actually show up and watch you Dawgs catch fish. Nice fish! Washington 1 Oregon 0

I wasn't too happy with how some of the photos came out, but that was the photographer, not the camera. I have a Canon PowerShot G1. It's been outdated by the PowerShot G2. You can find the G1 for $600 or less, I'd think. The G2 will be right around $800 or so.
