No not that kind of gas! I'm talking gasoline gas... someone asked me the other day what he should do with the gas in a boat he bought.

...SITUATION...
The gas is about 3 years old, the boat went into storage for the winter and it's got about half a tank 1)Do nothing 2) Rejuvenate gas with additives 3) Dump it all.

There's probably 30 gallons in there (guessing)...How long will gasoline last before going bad?

If it were me I would dump it, beside the gas being bad, he will also have some moisture (water)in the tank and it will give him nothing but headaches next time he uses the boat, if he has a fuel/water seperater I would replace that and keep an extra filter on board. The cost of replacing that 30 gallons is less then the problems he's going to have if he uses it.

This brings up a good question, can someone recommend a spout or a way to dump old gas out of a typical outboard gas tank?

I Drained 50 gallons of diesel out of a sailboat with one of those little brass hand pumps you can get at west marine. I hooked up a small chunk of garden hose to the suction and once I got the siphon started it flowed pretty good. You can get the pumps for 10 to 15 bucks or so. They are also good for pumping oil out of the crankcase as well.

you'll want to drain your carberator as well.

<edit> The hand pumps come completely apart for easy cleaning
